Plan your repair

BMW suspension repair prices

Suspension repairs can range from one worn joint to a pair of dampers or an air-system fault. These are indicative AED estimates from our suspension and specialist service pages. They help you plan a budget; the correct repair and final amount depend on your BMW’s equipment and inspection findings.

3 Series rear shock replacementReplacement of both rear shocks; labour included in the published estimate.950–1,250AED · per pair
5 Series rear shock replacementReplacement of both rear shocks; labour included in the published estimate.1,100–1,400AED · per pair
X5 / X6 rear shock replacementReplacement of both rear shocks; labour included. Air springs and compressors are not part of this shock-replacement estimate.1,300–1,700AED · per pair

Rear air suspension repairA repair allowance, not a complete-system package. Failed parts, quantity, labour and calibration require a vehicle-specific quote.3,000–4,500AED · guide range

The rear-shock figures apply only where the correct replacement parts can be supplied within that estimate. Adaptive dampers, M suspension and air struts need their own compatibility and price check. A diagnostic booking does not automatically include replacement parts. If inspection reveals another issue, ask what needs attention now and what can be planned for later.

For detailed model pricing, see our shock absorber replacement service and control arm replacement service. Compare quotes for the same axle, number of parts and parts specification; a lower component price alone does not tell you the fitted cost.

Find the right repair

Restore the way your BMW rides

You do not need to identify a failed part before contacting us. Describe the noise, ride change or warning message and let the inspection guide the repair. These service options help you understand the work once the cause is established.

01

Shocks and struts

Excessive bouncing, poor body control or a leaking damper can justify a shock or strut inspection. The repair should match your suspension specification and include a check of the surrounding mounts and protective components. Read about BMW shock absorber replacement for axle-pair pricing and model details.

02

Control arms and joints

Knocks over bumps or a loose steering feel may come from a worn arm, ball joint or bushing. Inspection separates a replaceable bushing from an arm that needs replacement. Our control arm service explains per-side work, parts choices and the alignment decision.

03

Bushings and thrust arms

Rubber or hydraulic bushings can deteriorate while the metal arm remains serviceable. Where the design allows it, replacing the bushing can be a different repair from replacing the complete arm. Explore suspension bushing replacement or thrust arm bushing replacement for the relevant component.

Springs and ride height

A visibly lower corner needs the spring and supporting components checked. A steel-spring fault requires a different repair from loss of pressure in an air spring. Our coil spring replacement service covers conventional springs; air-system diagnosis is explained below.

Alignment after the repair

Wheel alignment measures and adjusts the wheel angles where the vehicle permits adjustment. It does not repair a loose joint or failed damper. When suspension work affects geometry, arrange the wheel alignment check after the mechanical problem has been corrected, and confirm whether it is included in your quote.

Mention whether the concern appears when braking, turning, crossing a speed hump or after the car has been parked. If tyres were recently changed or the vehicle struck a kerb, include that detail. It helps separate suspension work from a tyre, wheel or steering concern without ordering parts from symptoms alone.

Know your suspension

Conventional, adaptive or air suspension

A model badge does not identify every fitted suspension option. The same BMW family may have different springs, dampers and electronic controls across its years and equipment packages. Confirming the actual system protects you from approving an incompatible replacement.

01 / Springs and dampers

Conventional and adaptive suspension

A conventional damper controls suspension movement without electronic adjustment. An adaptive damper adds electronic control, so its replacement needs the correct electrical and mechanical specification. A standard shock estimate should not be treated as the price for an adaptive unit.

  • Check the axle and whether the quote covers one unit or a pair.
  • Identify the fitted suspension package before ordering parts.
  • Inspect mounts, bump stops and protective boots alongside the damper.
  • Confirm any required electronic checks and wheel alignment.

02 / Air springs and height control

Air suspension repair

A low corner or a ride-height warning does not prove that the compressor has failed. An air spring, line, connection, valve or height-control fault can require a different repair. Testing should establish what is leaking or failing before several expensive components are replaced together.

  • Check air loss and the system’s ability to reach and hold height.
  • Separate the failed component from any secondary damage.
  • Confirm whether the quote includes an air spring, strut or compressor.
  • Include the applicable height checks and calibration in the job plan.

For an X5, X6 or 7 Series, tell us whether the car drops while parked, rises after starting, or shows a dashboard message. A photo of the parked vehicle or warning can help explain the concern. It supports booking and initial advice; it cannot confirm the failed part remotely.

Your workshop visit

From inspection to handover

A useful suspension repair has a clear reason, an agreed price and a check against the concern you brought in. Ask us to explain the findings in everyday language so you can decide with confidence.

  1. 01

    Describe the concern

Start with your BMW model, approximate year and the symptom. Tell us if the problem started suddenly, followed previous work or is getting worse. A VIN or registration detail can be supplied later if needed to identify parts.

  2. 02

    Check the vehicle

The assessment brings together the reported concern, tyre condition, visible leaks, ride height and wear or play in relevant suspension components. Electronic and air-system checks depend on the equipment fitted and the fault being investigated.

  3. 03

    Review the repair quote

Ask which component failed, why replacement is recommended and whether another part can remain in service. The written quote should identify quantities, the selected parts, labour, necessary alignment or calibration, applicable VAT and the expected completion time.

  4. 04

    Fit the agreed parts

The repair follows the vehicle-specific fitting requirements. Related hardware and mount condition matter as well as the main replacement part. Any additional work identified during dismantling should be explained before you approve an expanded repair.

  5. 05

    Check the completed work

The final checks should address the original complaint, including ride height and relevant fault messages where applicable. Confirm whether the job requires an alignment report or calibration record, and keep the invoice and applicable warranty details with your service history.

Diagnosis time and repair time are different. A straightforward replacement may be arranged around available parts and workshop capacity; intermittent electronic or air leaks may need further testing. Confirm the appointment and completion estimate after the vehicle and replacement parts have been identified.

Choose the right parts

Parts that suit your BMW

Compare genuine BMW and alternative parts with the actual repair in mind. The part specification, fitted system and work required determine the right choice.

Illustration of a pair of shock absorbers and a suspension control arm

Suspension component illustration.

  • Model and year: a 3 Series and an X5 do not share one universal suspension kit.
  • Equipment: standard, M Sport, adaptive and air suspension need a compatibility check.
  • Repair quantity: one arm, two shocks and a complete axle repair are different jobs.
  • Previous changes: lowering springs or aftermarket suspension may alter the required parts.

Genuine BMW parts are supplied under the BMW brand. Other replacement parts may come from original-equipment suppliers or independent aftermarket manufacturers. Those labels alone do not establish that a particular component is suitable for your car. Ask for the manufacturer, part specification and applicable warranty on the quote.

An alternative can be considered where a compatible part is available and appropriate for the repair. Availability and suitability need confirmation before booking. For adaptive or air suspension, matching the fitted system matters more than choosing the lowest advertised price. Do not approve a conventional damper as a direct substitute for an electronically controlled unit without understanding the consequences.

For bushings and arms, ask whether the bushing can be replaced separately and whether the joint or arm itself is worn. The cheapest individual part can become poor value if another worn component means repeating the labour. Equally, a sound assembly should not be replaced simply because a smaller serviceable component needs attention.

Warranty and completion time
Ask for the warranty applicable to the selected parts and labour, including its duration and exclusions, on the written quote. There is no single confirmed warranty period or same-day promise for every suspension repair. Parts availability and the findings determine the repair schedule.

Example quotations

Three example suspension quotations

These examples show how a repair can be described alongside its estimated cost. They are planning examples, not completed customer jobs or fixed offers. Each uses the same published rear-shock pricing basis; none confirms VAT treatment. A vehicle-specific written quotation takes precedence.

Example quotation

BMW 3 Series

Indicative AED950–1,250

A pair of rear shock absorbers with labour included, using the published 3 Series rear-shock estimate. This example assumes a compatible replacement pair is available within the range. Confirm the parts brand and suspension specification. Additional mounts, hardware, alignment and VAT treatment are subject to the written quote.

Rear shock pair · labour included
Example quotation

BMW 5 Series

Indicative AED1,100–1,400

Replacement of both rear shocks with labour included, based on the published 5 Series estimate. The car’s year and fitted damper system must be checked before applying this budget. Adaptive components or work on an air suspension system need a separate quote; they are not automatically covered by this example.

Rear shock pair · labour included
Example quotation

BMW X5 or X6

Indicative AED1,300–1,700

A rear shock absorber pair with labour included, drawn from our published X5/X6 shock-replacement estimate. This describes shock replacement only. Air springs, a compressor, air struts, ride-height calibration and other repairs are not a complete package at this price. Confirm compatibility and any additional charges before approval.

Rear shock pair · labour included

The intended result in each example is controlled damping from a correctly matched pair. The actual repair still needs to address the inspected fault: replacing shocks alone will not resolve a worn control arm, a damaged tyre or an air leak. Ask for any additional work to be listed separately so you can compare the total fairly.

Customer testimonials

What BMW owners say

These excerpts retain feedback previously published on BMW Garage’s suspension page. They describe individual experiences, including how repairs and costs were explained.

“I started noticing a weird bounce on Sheikh Zayed Road. Thought it was the tyres. Turned out to be the rear air suspension.”

Anees Khan · BMW X5 owner, Dubai Marina

“Here, they pinpointed the control arm failure and explained the entire BMW suspension repair process.”

Fatima Al Zahra · BMW 530i, Business Bay

“They walked me through the cost breakdown, replaced the air struts with original parts, and recalibrated the system properly.”

When discussing your own repair, ask for the same practical clarity: the fault identified, the work proposed, the selected parts and the final quote. Your vehicle’s findings and completion time may differ.

Before you book

Your suspension questions, answered

Practical answers about prices, fitting and the next step. If you already have a diagnosis or another quote, tell us what has been recommended so we can discuss the same repair.

How much will my BMW suspension repair cost?

The price depends on the failed part and fitted suspension. This page lists diagnosis at AED 250–400 and example rear-shock pairs from AED 950, with labour included in those pair estimates. Control-arm and air-system work have different budgets. These are indicative figures with unconfirmed VAT treatment; request the complete written price for your specific car.

Can you quote before I bring the car in?

We can discuss an initial estimate from the model, year and concern. Photos of a warning or uneven ride height can help you explain what is happening. A firm repair recommendation normally needs inspection. You do not need a VIN to start the conversation, although it may be requested later to confirm the correct part.

Should shocks be replaced as a pair?

Our published rear-shock service quotes both rear shocks together. Matching dampers across an axle helps avoid an imbalance between a new unit and a worn one. The appropriate parts and any special procedure depend on the fitted system. Ask whether the quote includes mounts or other components that also need replacement.

Will wheel alignment fix suspension knocking?

Alignment adjusts wheel angles where adjustment is available; it cannot repair a worn joint, loose mounting or failed damper. The source of the knock needs inspection first. After relevant suspension components have been replaced, check whether an alignment measurement or adjustment is needed and included in the price.

Does a sagging BMW need a new compressor?

Not necessarily. An air spring, connection or other air-system fault can lower the vehicle, and a height-control issue may require a different repair. Testing should identify the cause before a compressor is ordered. A sagging car with conventional springs needs a separate mechanical assessment.

How long does suspension replacement take?

Completion depends on the work, parts availability and workshop capacity. One arm replacement and a diagnosis involving an intermittent air leak need different amounts of time. Ask for the likely repair duration after the assessment, and confirm the booking separately. The price examples on this page do not promise same-day completion.

Can I drive with a suspension warning?

Check the message and follow the guidance in your BMW owner’s manual. If the car has dropped significantly, a tyre is rubbing or handling feels unstable, stop when safe and arrange assistance instead of continuing the journey. Call and describe the warning and vehicle position so the next step can be discussed.
