Plan the repair

BMW bushing replacement prices

Use these estimates to budget for a defined repair. The location, number of bushes, parts specification and access determine the final quote.

Work and quantityEstimated AED

5 Series · rear trailing-arm bushesTwo compatible, separately serviceable bushes with fitting1,000–1,400
X5 / X6 · selected rear-arm bushesTwo identified, separately serviceable bushes with fitting1,500–2,000

A low advertised part price can be misleading if the job needs substantial access. Compare the exact bush location and quantity, the selected brand, fitting and any alignment allowance. Two quotes for “rear bushes” may cover completely different components. We identify the work so you can understand what the estimate buys and why the price may change after inspection.

Start with the location

Which bushings need replacing?

Suspension bushes connect moving components while controlling unwanted movement and isolating vibration. A BMW has several bush locations, and each one has a different repair scope.

Front control arms

Worn control-arm bushes can allow unwanted movement as braking and road loads change. The inspection checks the bush alongside the arm and ball joint, rather than assuming the rubber part is the only issue. The exact arm layout varies by chassis. If the joint or arm is also damaged, replacing the complete control arm may be the more appropriate repair.

Thrust arms and tension struts

Some front suspension arrangements use a thrust-arm or tension-strut bush, which may be fluid-filled. The location and type need to be identified correctly, especially when the complaint is movement or vibration during braking. We check other possible causes too. If this is the affected component, thrust-arm bushing replacement can be quoted as a specific repair.

Rear trailing arms and links

Rear suspension includes several links and mounting points. A worn bush can affect how the rear axle responds to a bump or a change in load, but the symptom alone does not identify the part. We locate the affected joint, assess the surrounding arm and explain whether access is straightforward or requires additional components to be removed.

Subframe and drivetrain mounts

A subframe bush and a differential mount are different parts from an individual rear-arm bush. They can require substantially different access and supporting work. We assess these mounting points when the complaint calls for it, with a separate quote for any larger job. A general “rear bushing set” should never leave you guessing which mounts are included.

Choose the appropriate repair

A new bush or a complete arm?

The best option depends on whether the bush is serviceable separately and on the condition of the component around it.

Replace the bush

A separate bushing replacement can be appropriate when the arm is sound, the ball joint is serviceable and the manufacturer’s repair arrangement permits it. We check the mounting bore, correct bush specification and installation requirements before recommending this route. Removing an old bush without damaging the arm is part of the job, not something that can be assumed from the parts catalogue alone.

The quote should include the work required to remove, position and install the bush. A lower component price does not necessarily mean a lower fitted bill if pressing and access add labour. We explain that comparison before you decide, particularly when an assembled replacement arm is also available.

Replace the assembly

A complete arm may make more sense when its ball joint is worn, the arm is bent or damaged, or its bush is not intended to be serviced separately. The replacement assembly must still be checked for the correct application and supplied components. An arm described as complete does not automatically include every fitting needed for the repair.

We compare the total installed scope, rather than presenting a complete arm as an automatic upgrade. If the bush-only repair is suitable and economical, it remains a valid option. If replacing the assembly avoids retaining a worn joint or damaged housing, the reason should be clear in your quote.

Describe what has changed

Book a check for knocks or movement

Tell us when the symptom appears. Braking, turning, crossing a speed bump and accelerating place different loads on the suspension.

A knock over uneven roads

Bush movement can contribute to knocking, but links, mounts, joints and loose components can sound similar. Mention whether the noise comes from the front or rear and whether it occurs on one-wheel bumps or across a speed hump. We check the likely causes before recommending parts.

Movement or vibration under braking

A worn front arm bush can be one contributor, but tires, wheels and braking components also need consideration. Replacing bushes without finding the cause may leave the complaint unchanged. The assessment follows when and how the vibration happens, including whether it is felt through the steering wheel or the body.

A rear end that feels unsettled

Unwanted movement from a worn joint may become noticeable over bumps or as the load changes. Tire condition, pressure, wheel geometry and other suspension components can also affect the feel. Our suspension inspection helps distinguish an isolated bush repair from a wider issue when the cause is unclear.

Do not wait for a routine mileage interval if the handling changes significantly. If steering control is affected, a component appears loose or there is severe instability, stop driving and arrange recovery. A noise description can help arrange the visit, but it cannot establish remotely whether a particular vehicle is safe to drive.

Parts that suit the car

Comfort, isolation and response

Bush design affects more than fit. The choice should suit the vehicle’s original arrangement and the way you use it.

Rubber bushes

A compatible rubber bush is a common choice for restoring normal road-car comfort and suspension movement. The shape, orientation and stiffness need to suit the application. Superficial cracking alone does not establish the full condition; the inspection considers separation, movement and how the joint behaves.

We identify the selected manufacturer and part reference. Genuine BMW packaging and an independent supplier’s compatible part are distinct options; broad “OEM-quality” wording is not a substitute for an accurate specification.

Fluid-filled bushes

Some bushes use a fluid-filled design to manage vibration in a particular suspension location. Evidence of leakage or deterioration needs to be interpreted alongside the condition of the surrounding components. The replacement should match the intended application, with any alternative design discussed before fitting.

A conventional solid rubber bush may physically fit a location without reproducing the original isolation characteristics. We explain the proposed choice so a change in ride feel is considered in advance.

Performance alternatives

Polyurethane or other performance-oriented bushes may change noise, vibration and compliance. They are not automatically the best repair for a daily-driven BMW. Suitability, installation requirements and any ongoing maintenance depend on the specific product and location.

If your car already has modified suspension, tell us before parts are selected. We can discuss restoring a road-focused setup or assessing a compatible alternative. Performance parts availability and pricing require a separate quotation.

Inspection through to handover

Careful fitting, with the scope agreed

We identify the affected bushes and discuss the repair before dismantling. The job plan lists the location, replacement quantity, selected parts and any related work. If an arm, fixing or mounting bore has additional damage, we explain the finding and obtain agreement for the revised work.

Access differs by location. Some bushes require an arm to be removed and supported in suitable tooling; other designs are replaced as an assembly. Position and orientation markings matter where specified. Fitting should follow the procedure for that component rather than treating every BMW bush as the same press-fit repair.

For bonded rubber joints, final tightening is carried out at the specified vehicle position where the procedure requires it. Other joint designs may have different requirements. Correct fixings, tightening specifications and assembly checks help avoid loading a new bush incorrectly from the start.

After the mechanical work, we check the assembly and assess the original complaint. Where the repair disturbs suspension geometry, wheel alignment is considered as part of completing the job. Alignment cannot compensate for a loose or worn joint, and not every bushing replacement changes the same adjustments. The quote states whether alignment is included or additional.

Parts availability, access and seized fixings affect workshop time. We discuss the expected completion once the repair is identified, and explain any change if dismantling reveals additional work. At handover, you receive the details of the parts and work supplied, with the applicable warranty terms and any remaining recommendations.

Three repair scopes

Example bushing quotations

These illustrative quotations show how location and included work change the budget. They are planning examples, not records of completed customer jobs.

2014 BMW 320i · front axle

Front bushing pair

Estimated AED850–1,200

A planning quote for two separately serviceable front control-arm bushes, including removal and fitting. It assumes the arms, ball joints and mounting bores remain suitable. If inspection supports complete arms instead, their installed cost is quoted separately. Alignment, additional damaged fixings and VAT treatment are confirmed in the written job quotation.

2012 BMW 520i · rear axle

Rear pair + alignment

Estimated AED1,280–1,750

Two separately serviceable rear trailing-arm bushes with fitting, plus an alignment allowance when the repair requires it. The total combines AED 1,000–1,400 for the bushing repair with AED 280–350 for alignment. It excludes additional rear links or mounts. The final quote confirms the selected parts, findings and VAT treatment.

2015 BMW X5 · selected rear arms

Two rear-arm bushes

Estimated AED1,500–2,000

A defined repair to two identified, separately serviceable rear-arm bushes, including fitting. It assumes the surrounding arms remain serviceable. This is not a price for replacing every rear bush, the subframe mounts or differential mounts. Those larger scopes require their own access and parts assessment. Any alignment and additional work are itemized before approval.

We do not recommend replacing every bush solely because one has failed. A matched or related pair may be appropriate for a particular repair, but the condition of the remaining joints should guide further work. Ask to have an urgent repair distinguished from a component that can be monitored; a clear assessment makes it easier to plan the visit and the budget.

Your questions answered

Practical answers about the repair, the price and arranging a workshop visit.

Do I need to replace every suspension bush?

No. The inspection identifies which joints are worn and whether a pair or a wider repair is justified. A single failed bush does not automatically require a full suspension overhaul. We explain the condition found and distinguish the recommended repair from other components that remain serviceable.

Can a bush be replaced without changing the arm?

Sometimes. The bush must be separately serviceable, and the arm, ball joint and mounting bore must remain suitable. In other cases a complete arm is required or makes better sense on fitted cost. We compare the appropriate options after identifying the component and its condition.

Will bushing replacement fix a braking vibration?

It may help if unwanted bush movement is contributing, but vibration can also come from tires, wheels or braking components. The cause should be checked before parts are ordered. Tell us when it happens and where you feel it so the inspection follows the actual complaint.

Is wheel alignment included in the price?

The general bushing estimates exclude alignment. It is added when required by the repair and confirmed in the written quote. The featured 520i example includes a separate alignment allowance. Correcting geometry does not replace repairing a worn or loose suspension joint first.

Are polyurethane bushes better for a daily driver?

Not automatically. A performance bush can change compliance, noise and vibration, and its suitability depends on the specific product and suspension location. A compatible replacement that restores the intended road-car behavior may suit you better. Discuss modified parts and your comfort priorities before ordering.

What should I send when asking for a quote?

Start with the BMW model, year if known, and a short description of the noise or movement. Mention any suspension modifications or a recent inspection report. We can then arrange the assessment and obtain the vehicle details needed to identify the exact parts and fitted scope.
