For slow starting or a battery that fails testing, we quote a compatible replacement with installation and the required registration. If the battery is merely discharged, charging and retesting may be appropriate before buying a new one.
A car that loses charge again needs the cause investigated. The battery, charging system, connections or a circuit staying awake may be involved. Tell us when the warning appears and whether the battery has already been replaced.
This page covers the main 12V battery. An emergency-call warning may need SOS system battery diagnosis. Hybrid traction batteries, 48V systems and key-fob batteries require different identification and pricing.

Estimates, not fixed offers. Brand, exact specification and access affect the quote. VAT treatment and any mobile callout charge are confirmed before booking. Extended drain diagnosis, damaged cables, sensors and other repairs are separate. These are not high-voltage battery prices.
A slow crank is a reason to test the battery, but it can also involve connections or the starter. A dashboard discharge message describes a power-management concern rather than naming a failed component. We use the reported symptom and test results to decide what work to quote.
Battery condition and state of charge are different. A sound battery can be low on charge after prolonged parking or repeated short trips. Where the initial result calls for charging and another test, that step helps avoid replacing a usable component. A battery that cannot provide the required performance after proper assessment is a different case.
Routine checks examine the battery, accessible connections and the vehicle’s charging behavior. If there is evidence of an intermittent drain or charging-system fault, further diagnosis is discussed separately. A quick battery test cannot rule out every circuit that may keep the vehicle awake overnight.
Starting successfully with assistance does not prove that a new battery is the only repair needed. Tell us how long the car had been parked and whether the problem has happened before. Testing can establish whether replacement, charging or further investigation is appropriate.
Bring the previous invoice if you have it. The installed specification, connections and registration history can help explain the complaint. We assess the fitted battery and related system instead of assuming that another new battery will resolve repeated discharge.
Battery selection combines electrical specification with physical fit. Capacity in amp-hours, starting performance, case dimensions, terminal layout, securing points and venting all matter. The existing label is useful, but we also check that the battery already fitted is appropriate for the car.
AGM is a type of lead-acid battery with a different internal construction from a conventional flooded battery. Where the vehicle specifies AGM, retain a compatible AGM replacement. Do not substitute a basic flooded unit simply because it fits the tray. EFB batteries also have their own specification and are not an automatic replacement for AGM.
A genuine BMW battery and a correctly specified alternative should be compared by the actual product, application and warranty. We explain the offered brand and capacity on the quote. A well-known supplier’s name alone does not establish that every product in its range suits your particular BMW.
A larger battery is not automatically an upgrade. It must fit safely and be supported by the vehicle’s configuration. For example, 5 Series battery requirements differ between generations and engines. The same care applies to 3 Series, X models and M cars; capacity is confirmed for the actual application.
On BMWs with the relevant battery-management system, registration records that a new battery has been installed. It allows the system to begin managing the replacement without continuing the old battery’s aging history. The requirement is checked for your vehicle rather than assumed from the badge.
A like-for-like replacement generally needs the applicable registration procedure without a change to the stored battery specification. Coding or configuration is a separate step when a supported change in capacity or technology requires the vehicle’s settings to be updated. The two terms should not be used as if they describe identical work.
The fitted quote includes the applicable routine setup for the battery agreed with you. If the vehicle has a communication fault that prevents the procedure, we explain the issue and any extra diagnostic work. Completing registration does not repair a defective alternator, damaged connection or an unrelated overnight drain.
Once you approve the replacement, we access the battery compartment and use the appropriate vehicle procedure for removal. A BMW battery may be located away from the engine bay, so luggage or items covering the access panel need to be moved before work starts.
The new battery must sit securely in its tray with the correct restraint. Terminals and nearby sensor connections are handled carefully, and the vent connection is checked where fitted. A battery that is loose, incorrectly positioned or connected with strained cables needs correction before handover.
Installation is followed by applicable registration and functional checks. We check starting and the relevant warning status, then explain anything that needs more investigation. If a feature requires an initialization after power interruption, that is addressed using the procedure appropriate to the car.
The old battery is removed from the vehicle and handled as part of the agreed replacement service. Tell us before work begins if you need to discuss its return or a supplier exchange condition. Your invoice should identify the new battery so its specification, installation date and applicable warranty are easy to find later.
A workshop appointment gives us access to equipment for the battery change and any additional diagnosis you approve. It is the practical option when a warning has returned, the charging system needs investigation, or the battery compartment requires more involved access. We confirm the expected visit time after discussing the vehicle and concern.

We confirm the location, correct battery, access and available appointment before arranging attendance. Share parking restrictions or basement access details when relevant; they can affect whether the work is suitable on site.

Keep the invoice and the battery details with your service records. Ask which warranty applies to the supplied product and installation, how a claim is assessed and whether any conditions relate to vehicle use or electrical faults. Warranty terms vary with the actual battery; an unspecified “long warranty” is not enough to compare two quotations.
Regular short journeys and long periods parked can leave the battery with limited opportunity to recover charge. If this describes your use, ask about a suitable charging routine or an approved maintainer for the vehicle. Replacement does not remove the effect of how the car is stored and driven.
If a discharge warning returns, note when it appeared and any change in starting behavior. Repeated replacement should not become the default response. The next inspection may need to examine charging performance, connections or a circuit that remains active after the car is parked.
