Technician diagnosing a BMW 3 Series in the workshop

Keep up with routine service

BMW 3 Series oil filter service

Oil and filter service

A planned oil service matched to the engine’s oil approval, fill quantity and filter. Mention an oil warning or leak separately so it can be assessed rather than treated as routine maintenance.

Brake pads

Front or rear pads selected for the installed brake package. The quote should identify the axle, any wear sensor and whether the discs need attention as well.

Restore engine and gearbox performance

A running or shifting problem needs its cause established before a major component is replaced. Use the service that matches an existing diagnosis, or book the reported concern when the cause remains uncertain. Owners of turbocharged E90, E92, E93 or F30 models can use the BMW 335i repair guide for N54 and N55 symptoms, diagnosis choices and indicative Dubai prices.

BMW 3 Series engine repair in progress

Engine repair and replacement

For a diagnosed mechanical concern or an engine replacement proposal. Inspection determines whether the required work is an external repair, internal work or replacement.

Transmission replacement

A replacement option where the gearbox condition justifies it. The unit, parts condition, fluids, fitting and any required programming belong in the proposed total.

Turbocharger replacement

Assessment and replacement for a confirmed turbocharger fault. Loss of power can have several causes, so the repair follows the findings and includes any contributing fault.

Fuel-pump service

Testing and replacement for an identified fuel-supply problem. Starting difficulty or hesitation does not by itself establish which pump or component needs attention.

Water-pump replacement

For a pump leak or operation fault confirmed on the fitted cooling system. The engine and pump type determine access, parts and the associated coolant work.

The gearbox types and replacement page also covers the fitted unit and replacement scope. “Transmission” and “gearbox” refer to the same main assembly here; visiting both pages does not mean two separate repairs are needed.

When the fault is unclear

Rough running or reduced power

Explain when the concern occurs: at startup, while idling or under acceleration. The assessment can then follow the relevant engine, ignition, fueling or air-system findings. A warning mentioning the drivetrain does not automatically prove that the gearbox or turbocharger has failed.

Leaks or temperature warnings

Fresh oil needs an oil-leak inspection, while recurring coolant loss belongs with cooling-system diagnosis. Fluid can travel across covers before it reaches the ground. If the car is overheating or displays an oil-pressure warning, stop safely and arrange assistance.

Vibration or an unusual noise

Tell us whether it happens while braking, steering, accelerating or driving over uneven surfaces. Wheel, suspension, brake and driveline concerns can feel similar from the driver’s seat. The inspection should connect the symptom to a finding before parts are ordered.

Battery, lights and daily controls

Battery replacement

Test the 12V battery and fit a compatible replacement where required. Capacity, technology and any registration or configuration requirements must match the vehicle.

Headlight repair and replacement

Investigate the affected lamp or function before choosing a bulb, control component or assembly. The fitted lighting system determines the correct parts.

Key-fob service

Help with remote locking, key operation or a replacement-key requirement. Explain which function is affected and whether another key behaves differently.

A flat battery can be the result of battery deterioration, a charging problem or an electrical draw while the vehicle is parked. A replacement should be matched to the car, with any required registration completed. Registration and changing the battery configuration are different tasks.

If several electrical functions are affected together, describe all of them when booking. Testing of the relevant supply, wiring and control system may be more useful than replacing the first component named in a warning.

Ride quality and body repairs

Shock absorbers

For worn dampers, poor body control or an identified suspension repair. The fitted suspension, axle and required finishing work determine the parts and quote.

Bumper repair and replacement

Assessment of bumper damage and the work needed to restore the affected area. Paint, trims, sensors and any damage behind the bumper should be identified separately.

A suspension repair and cosmetic damage can be discussed during the same visit, but each needs its own scope. For handling concerns, the workshop checks the affected components before deciding whether dampers, related parts or an alignment are required. For bodywork, photos can help begin the discussion, with inspection used to establish concealed damage and the final finish.

Match the work to your 3 Series

Earlier generations

Age and repair history

Older 3 Series cars can need attention to aged seals, hoses, joints and previous repairs. The right starting point is their present condition and documented work, rather than a list of failures assumed to affect every car of that age.

Parts matching also matters where equipment has been changed during earlier ownership. Describe known modifications when they are relevant to the repair.

E9x, F3x and G2x

Engine and installed equipment

Generation codes help identify the vehicle family, but engine, transmission, brakes, lighting and suspension equipment can still differ. Similar 320i, 328i or 330i badges across generations do not establish identical parts.

The workshop can confirm the relevant equipment from the car or request its details when ordering. You can begin with the model and year if that is what you know. Owners of turbocharged E9x and F30 variants can use the BMW 335i repair guide for N54 and N55 fault, diagnosis and price information.

Hybrid and performance versions

330e and M models

An applicable 330e combines engine-maintenance needs with a separate high-voltage system. An M3 also has components and service requirements that should not be priced as a standard 3 Series package.

Tell us the exact version when available. Any specialist hybrid or performance-model work should be identified in the proposal before it is included.

Arrange the right amount of work

A service, a repair or both

If you are booking maintenance, compare the oil quantity, filter, other service items and final payable price. If you have a fault, agree the assessment first so the repair can be priced from actual findings. It is useful to mention both needs at the start.

A complete fitted quote should identify parts, labor, fluids and any required coding, registration, alignment or other finishing work. VAT and any separate diagnostic charge should be clear. Shared access or a refill should be accounted for once when jobs are combined.

Before you book

3 Series service questions

Clear answers about servicing, faults and the next step before you arrange the work.

Can I book an older 3 Series?

Tell us the model, year and work needed so the workshop can plan the assessment and check relevant parts availability. Earlier cars are assessed on their actual condition and fitted equipment.

Do you need the VIN before I contact you?

No. The model and a short description are enough for an initial enquiry. The VIN or a parts check may be needed later to establish the exact specification for a quotation.

Do jerky shifts mean I need a new gearbox?

Not necessarily. A shifting concern can lead to different repairs after diagnosis. Replacement should be proposed when the findings support it, with the fitted unit and associated work identified.

Is every 330e service a hybrid-battery job?

No. Routine engine maintenance, a 12V battery concern and high-voltage system work are different services. The request and assessment establish which work is relevant.

Can I combine body repairs with maintenance?

The work can be planned together where practical. Describe each item when booking so parts, inspection and workshop time can be considered. The quote should keep the individual scopes clear.
