Maintenance due

Bring the service reminder and any recent maintenance details you have. We can help identify the oil, filter, fluid and other service items relevant to your X5. A mileage figure by itself does not mean the engine, gearbox or suspension needs a major overhaul.

For a routine visit, use the maintenance links below to compare the actual inclusions. If a leak, warning or driving concern has appeared as well, mention it when booking so diagnostic time can be considered separately.

Something has changed

Describe the noise, message or behavior in normal language. A vibration under acceleration, a low corner after parking and a temperature warning lead to different checks. You do not need to name a failed component to request an inspection.

If a workshop has already diagnosed a repair, share the findings if available. The quote should still identify the exact parts, associated work and final payable amount.

BMW X5 service directory

Choose the area your X5 needs. Each destination covers a narrower service, while this page helps you organize the work and find the right starting point.

Routine service

Plan the items your X5 is due and combine suitable work in one visit. The oil specification, quantity and filters are matched to the engine.

Oil and filter change

Engine oil, a compatible filter and the appropriate service checks. Use this for an oil-service reminder or planned maintenance; a warning or visible leak may require separate diagnosis.

Engine air filter

Replacement of the engine intake filter with the correct part. A filter service and a repair for poor running are different jobs, even if they are discussed at the same visit.

Spark plugs

Correct plugs and fitting for the petrol engine. If the car is misfiring, testing helps establish whether plugs, ignition components or another system is responsible.

Tune-up and maintenance

Review the service items relevant to your engine and maintenance history. The proposed work should be listed individually so you can distinguish overdue care from a diagnosed repair.

Engine and cooling

Find help with coolant loss, a running problem or a confirmed mechanical fault. A temperature warning should be investigated before the vehicle is driven further.

BMW X5 cooling system leak inspection
X5 cooling faults are checked at the affected circuit before radiator, pump or hose work is selected.

Coolant leaks

Trace recurring coolant loss and identify the affected hose, tank, joint or component. The position of a puddle alone does not establish which part needs replacement.

Water pump

Pump diagnosis and replacement where the checks identify a leak or operating fault. The installed pump and engine determine the parts and associated coolant work.

Radiator

Repair planning for a diagnosed radiator problem, including the required replacement, fitting and refill. Other cooling components are assessed on their own findings.

Engine repair and replacement

Compare the appropriate repair route when an engine fault is established. A running complaint begins with diagnosis; a replacement engine is a separate proposal with defined inclusions.

Timing chain

Assessment and replacement for a confirmed timing-system concern. Unusual noise should be investigated rather than treated as proof that the chain needs replacement.

Head gasket

A dedicated repair for an established cylinder-head sealing problem. Coolant loss or overheating alone is not enough to identify this job.

Fuel pump

Testing and replacement for an identified fuel-supply fault. Starting problems and hesitation can have several causes, so the correct pump and required work are established first.

Fuel injectors

Investigation and injector work for a diagnosed fueling concern. The proposal identifies the affected units, parts and any associated fitting or calibration requirements.

Ride, brakes and driveline

Choose suspension work for ride or height changes, and driveline work for power-transfer concerns. Similar vibrations can originate in different systems.

BMW X5 suspension control arm inspection
Suspension and driveline complaints are inspected at the relevant components before parts are approved.

Suspension repair

For knocks, uneven ride height, poor body control or a suspension warning. The checks distinguish the installed spring, damping and any air-suspension equipment.

Shock absorbers

Replacement of worn or failed dampers with parts matched to the fitted suspension. Adaptive equipment and axle requirements can change the quote.

Control arms

Assessment of arms, joints and bushings when wear affects ride or handling. The exact arm and any alignment work should be identified in the repair.

Wheel alignment

Geometry checks and adjustment where appropriate. Worn joints, damaged tires or other faults may need attention before an alignment can hold its intended settings.

Brake pads

Front or rear pad work matched to the brake package. Discs, pad-wear sensors and caliper condition are assessed so the quote covers the required repair.

Wheel bearings

Investigation of wheel-related noise or bearing wear. Noise location and road-speed behavior help guide checks without assuming that every hum is a bearing fault.

Transmission

For shifting, engagement or a confirmed gearbox concern. Fluid maintenance, selective repair and replacement are different options with different inclusions.

Transfer case

A separate xDrive component from the transmission and axle differentials. Testing identifies whether a turning or power-transfer complaint originates in this assembly.

Differential

Assessment and repair planning for a diagnosed axle differential fault. The relevant front or rear assembly and required parts belong in the quotation.

Drive shaft

Investigation of a vibration or damaged power-transmission shaft. The workshop identifies the specific shaft or joint and distinguishes it from gearbox or differential work.

Battery and electrical

Start with the affected function, warning or starting concern. Low-voltage supply problems and hybrid high-voltage repairs are separate services.

12V battery

Battery testing, compatible replacement and any required registration. Repeated discharge can also need charging or electrical-drain checks.

Alternator

Assessment of charging performance and repair where the alternator is responsible. A weak battery or damaged connection can require a different solution.

Hybrid battery

For the high-voltage battery system on applicable plug-in hybrid X5 models. This is distinct from replacing the 12V battery used by vehicle electronics.

ECU repair and replacement

A diagnosed engine-control unit concern, with repair or replacement and any necessary programming discussed for the actual unit. A fault code alone does not prove an ECU failure.

Key-fob service

Help with key or remote operation. Mention whether a second key behaves differently; that can help separate a key issue from a vehicle-side concern.

Body, glass and cabin

Restore damaged exterior parts and affected cabin functions. Safety-system work is assessed separately from cosmetic repair.

Windshield

Glass replacement matched to the vehicle’s equipment. The quote should identify associated trims, sensors and any required camera calibration.

Side mirrors

Mirror glass, housing or assembly work according to the damage and fitted functions. Heating, folding, cameras and electrical connections can change the required part.

Bumper repair and replacement

Assessment of the affected bumper and related fittings. Paint, sensors, trim and underlying damage need to be distinguished when comparing quotations.

Airbag-system repair

Assessment of a restraint-system concern or collision-related work. Warning diagnosis and the required components follow the actual findings; clearing a warning is not a repair.

Window tinting

Discuss the film, coverage and finish for your X5. The chosen specification and applicable requirements should be clear before installation.

The equipment on your X5 matters

Generation and engine

Earlier X5 generations and later vehicles can have different engines, cooling layouts, electronics and service procedures. The model year and engine help establish the correct work; a familiar badge is not enough to order every part.

For a parts-specific quote, the workshop may request the VIN or check the vehicle’s fitted equipment. That is a follow-up for matching parts, not a requirement before your first call.

Suspension and xDrive

Not every X5 has the same spring, damper or air-suspension arrangement. A ride-height issue on an air-equipped car needs different checks from worn conventional dampers. The installed system determines the relevant replacement parts.

xDrive-related complaints also need the transmission, transfer case, shafts, differentials and tires to be distinguished. The phrase “drivetrain fault” does not identify which one has failed.

Petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid

Routine service requirements follow the fitted powertrain. An applicable plug-in hybrid still has engine-maintenance needs, while its high-voltage system is a separate specialist scope. A 12V battery concern should not be priced as a hybrid battery replacement.

Describe the affected function or message and let the assessment identify the system involved. Any additional hybrid-system work should be explained before it becomes part of the job.

Compare the complete repair

Use the relevant service estimate

An oil change, brake-pad replacement and engine repair are different purchases. The specialist pages above provide a better starting point than one broad “X5 repair from” figure. For an uncertain fault, agree the diagnostic allowance before the assessment.

A useful quotation identifies the parts, fitting labor, fluids and any programming, registration or alignment required. It should also show VAT and the final payable total. Additional work is explained before you approve it.

Other X5 concerns

Cabin cooling and controls

If cabin air is warm or airflow has changed, our AC service covers cooling and airflow diagnosis. An engine temperature concern belongs with the cooling-system routes above, even if both symptoms occur during the same journey.

Oil marks and running symptoms

Fresh oil or a burning smell can call for an oil-leak inspection. For a broader description of possible concerns, the X5 problems guide provides background; diagnosis establishes the repair for your car.

Before you book

X5 booking questions

Practical answers about X5 servicing, repair choices and what to send for an initial estimate.

Can I book without knowing what is wrong?

Yes. Your X5 model and a short description of the concern are enough to start. A photo of a warning or previous findings can help if available, but the workshop can arrange the relevant assessment.

Does every X5 have air suspension?

No. The fitted suspension varies, so spring, damper and air-system work must be matched to the car. A parts check establishes the equipment before a replacement is ordered.

Is a hybrid battery the same as the 12V battery?

No. The high-voltage battery on an applicable plug-in hybrid and its 12V electrical supply serve different functions and involve different services. The reported fault needs to be identified before replacement is proposed.

Can maintenance and repairs be booked together?

Yes, the proposed work can be organized in one visit where practical. Mention due service items and any symptoms so the workshop can allow for diagnosis, parts and the expected repair time.
