Approve access and parts
Confirm the motor, necessary seals and the labor needed to reach it. Additional dismantling is discussed if findings change the scope.
Valve-lift control · Al Quoz 4, Dubai
Rough idle, hesitant acceleration or an engine that cranks but will not start? We check whether the Valvetronic motor, its controls or the valve-lift mechanism is responsible, then quote the correct repair, fitting and required adaptation work.

Includes a new motor, routine fitting, required adaptation, initial diagnosis and the listed minor-seal allowance. Engine-specific extras are quoted separately.
Start with the symptom
Arrange an assessment if the problem returns. Ignition faults, air leaks and fuel delivery can feel similar, so replacing the motor is not the starting assumption.
Share the exact message if available. Stored faults and the motor’s response help distinguish an electrical problem from a stiff mechanism.
Valve-lift control is one possible cause. If the engine does not crank at all, the starting system and power supply need a different assessment.
Tell us when the noise occurs. Sound alone is not proof of motor damage; certain engine/software combinations need different checks.
Choose the work that fixes the cause
Check supply, connectors, wiring and relevant control signals. Repair a confirmed connection issue or follow an applicable software procedure when justified. These are separate from replacing a healthy motor.
Match the servomotor to the engine, check the driven mechanism, replace the agreed seals and complete required learning procedures. This route suits a motor fault without unresolved mechanical binding.
A damaged eccentric shaft, gear interface or related valve-lift components can require a larger repair. We explain the additional access, parts and cost before expanding the job.
Valvetronic varies intake-valve lift, which helps control incoming air. It is different from VANOS camshaft timing. The two systems can produce similar complaints but require different repairs.
Understand the complete estimate
| Quoted item | Estimated AED before VAT |
|---|---|
| New genuine BMW motorPlanning range for selected applications. Exact part number and availability are confirmed before ordering. | 1,500–2,200 |
| Removal, fitting and adaptationNormal access, installation, required learning and operating checks. | 800–1,200 |
| Initial diagnosisFault review and agreed control/response checks. Deeper dismantling is separate. | 350–600 |
| Minor seals and consumables allowancePlanning allowance only. Larger gasket sets or a damaged cover need a separate quote. | 150–350 |
These are planning ranges for selected applications, not a fixed price for every BMW. Shaft or sensor replacement, extensive wiring repairs, a full valve cover, separate software programming and unrelated faults are excluded unless listed. The written quote confirms each part, labor, VAT and total before work begins.

Confirm the failure
A stored Valvetronic code points to an investigation, not automatically to a parts order. If testing identifies a sensor, wiring or control fault, we explain that finding and quote the appropriate work. You can approve the repair with a clear reason for each recommended part.
Installation and setup
Confirm the motor, necessary seals and the labor needed to reach it. Additional dismantling is discussed if findings change the scope.
Use the engine-specific release and installation procedure. Check the mating drive and avoid forcing the motor against the mechanism.
Carry out the applicable end-stop learning or adaptation function with a suitable power supply. Investigate a failed procedure rather than repeatedly resetting it.
Recheck faults, starting, idle and response. Inspect disturbed seals for leaks and complete an appropriate road test when the vehicle is safe.
The system needs the correct reference positions for valve-lift control. The required learning procedure depends on the engine and repair. Successful learning is checked alongside actual engine operation.
A software update is a different task. It may be relevant to a specific fault or service instruction, but it is not a compulsory extra for every motor replacement. Any separate programming charge needs an explanation.
Compare the motor and the fitted work
| Part option | What to compare | Before approval |
|---|---|---|
| Genuine BMW motor | Exact application, current part number and supplied condition. | Confirm availability, fitting materials and written coverage. |
| Named supplier alternative | Manufacturer, application data and supplier support, if a suitable option is available. | An “OEM quality” label alone does not identify the product. |
| Used or rebuilt unit | Known testing, wear, traceability and whether repeat fitting labor is covered. | Availability and suitability require confirmation; a low part price can mean greater rework risk. |
A straightforward motor replacement may fit into one working day after diagnosis and parts confirmation. More involved access or a failed learning check can require one to two days. Mechanical repairs and ordered parts take longer.
Your estimate identifies the supplied part and applicable warranty terms before approval. Coverage varies by supplier and repair, so confirm the duration, any mileage limit, covered parts and labor, exclusions and recheck process in writing. Keep the invoice and part details if you need support after collection.
Engine-specific fitment
The eccentric shaft sensor is separate from the motor on these designs. A sensor or connector fault needs its own assessment. Do not approve both components solely because a Valvetronic fault is stored.
The N55 Valvetronic system integrates position sensing in the servomotor. Other N- and B-family engines have their own parts and access requirements. The VIN and engine version are checked before a motor is ordered.
Depending on the engine, surrounding components or the cylinder-head cover may need removal. Required gaskets, single-use fasteners and any damaged cover must be identified in the quote.

Three typical job estimates
These are estimated scenarios, not completed customer jobs. They assume a confirmed motor fault, a serviceable driven mechanism, a matching new genuine BMW motor and the listed routine fitting scope. Component amounts below are before VAT; the prominent total includes 5% VAT. Actual access, parts and gasket requirements are confirmed in your quote. For each scenario, the written warranty identifies coverage for the supplied motor and associated fitting; separate sensor, shaft or unrelated repairs need their own scope. Delivery time is additional to the workshop estimates.
2008 BMW 328i · N52-equipped vehicle
Rough idle with testing that supports motor replacement. Fit the matching motor and minor seals, complete the required learning and recheck idle. Separate sensor and shaft repairs are excluded. The AED 150 seal allowance covers the assumed minor sealing work; a larger access gasket requirement changes the estimate.
Estimated total, including 5% VAT
Likely timing: About one working day once parts are ready.
2014 BMW 320i · N20-equipped vehicle
Hesitation with a confirmed actuator fault and no unresolved mechanical binding. Replace the motor, renew the agreed minor seals within the AED 200 allowance and verify adaptation and response. Additional cover or gasket work must be itemized if access requires it.
Estimated total, including 5% VAT
Likely timing: Allow one to two working days including assessment.
2013 BMW 535i · N55-equipped vehicle
Reduced power with testing that identifies a motor fault. Replace the matching unit, include agreed access and minor seals, and verify learning and engine operation. Eccentric shaft work and a damaged valve cover are not included. The AED 350 seal allowance must be checked against the actual access requirements.
Estimated total, including 5% VAT
Likely timing: Allow one to two working days after parts arrive.

Answers before you book
The full listed planning scope is AED 2,940–4,567.50 including 5% VAT. This covers the selected new motor, routine fitting and required adaptation, initial diagnosis and minor-seal allowance. The subtotal before VAT is AED 2,800–4,350. Larger gasket requirements, shaft or sensor work and separate programming change the quote.
A learning procedure cannot repair worn gears, a failed motor or a binding mechanism. A control or software issue may need a different solution, but that decision follows diagnosis. Repeatedly clearing faults can make the complaint harder to assess.
No. Required adaptation or end-stop learning is different from changing the engine controller software. Programming is included only when the vehicle-specific findings or repair instructions call for it. Ask which procedure is needed and whether it is included in the labor price.
No. Valvetronic changes intake-valve lift on equipped engines, while VANOS adjusts camshaft timing. Both can affect engine behavior. A VANOS fault or rough idle does not, by itself, establish that the Valvetronic motor needs replacement.
Not automatically. Some engines have a separate sensor; others integrate feedback into the motor. The engine design and test results determine the work. A quotation should explain each replacement instead of listing the same parts for every BMW.
Removal and refitting can involve mechanical loading, delicate connectors and an engine-specific learning procedure. Forcing the motor or driving with it disconnected can create further problems. Arrange assessment rather than using disconnection as a workaround for a warning.
It may be possible for straightforward access after the fault is confirmed and the correct motor is available. Keep one to two working days in mind for assessment, fitting and checks. Parts delivery, additional wear or an unsuccessful adaptation check can extend the visit.
