What is priced separately?
Interior drying, stained trim, corrosion or electrical repairs, unrelated leak sources, recovery, and additional dismantling are separate unless listed. Your written quote identifies parts, labor, testing, VAT, and the complete amount payable.

A controlled test distinguishes roof drainage from panel fit, glass bonding and nearby body entry points. The wettest cabin area is not always the source.

Check the drainage path
Inspect accessible channels, drain flow, hose connections and outlets. A blocked drain and a split or detached hose need different work.

Clear or repair the confirmed fault and check discharge again. Assess soaked trim separately so drying and hidden damage are not overlooked.

Does the whole sunroof need replacing?
Not necessarily. A motor cannot fix a broken rail, and a complete cassette is not the starting answer to every leak. Choose the scope after the failed component and remaining mechanism have been assessed.

New genuine parts
A quotation for new genuine BMW supply identifies the component and part number matched to the fitted roof. A motor, front moving panel, rear fixed panel, and complete cassette are different purchases. Availability and the items supplied with an assembly affect the final price.
Repair kits and used assemblies
A suitable repair kit replaces specified failed components while retaining the serviceable mechanism. An inspected used assembly may be an option when available, but its condition and wear history differ from new supply. The quote identifies whether motors, glass, shade components, or fittings are included.
Compare the same work: A bare cassette price is not a complete installed-roof price. Compare part condition, included components, access labor, materials, and testing. Applicable parts and labor coverage must be stated in writing before approval; this page does not promise one warranty period for every option.
Movement, shade and access
BMW sunroof motor, rail, and shade faults
A roof that will not open can have a power, switch, control, motor or mechanical problem. Electrical checks and the condition of the drive system help determine which part, if any, needs replacement.
- Grinding or uneven travel: inspect guides, cables and rails before approving a motor.
- Roof moves but shade sticks: assess the shade fabric, runners and drive separately.
- Noise with the roof closed: check panel fit, fasteners, seals and mechanism play.
- Initialization: perform the vehicle-specific procedure when required after repair. A reset will not mend broken mechanical parts.
Why labor varies: motor access can be limited, while cassette work may require substantial headliner and trim removal. The quote identifies the access work and any fragile or previously damaged trim. Existing stains, sagging material, broken clips, and electrical damage are separate from replacing the failed roof component.

When the shade stops moving
A sticking interior shade is a separate complaint from a glass panel that will not open. The fabric, runners, and drive need assessment before choosing a repair kit or larger assembly. Tell us whether the glass still moves normally, if you already know. Do not cycle the roof repeatedly to test it.
The shade repair is quoted separately unless included in the agreed work. Parts availability and access can affect whether a focused repair is practical.
When the roof will not close
Contact us with the panel position and whether it appears loose or uneven. We can discuss assessment and transport. Temporary closure depends on the fault and should not be assumed possible before inspection. Do not force the glass, cables, or shade into place.
Keep the vehicle sheltered while arranging help. A roof that can be positioned closed may still need a mechanical repair before it can be operated normally.
When the cabin is already wet
Stopping the leak and drying the interior are different jobs. The quote should identify any additional trim removal, drying, stain treatment, or electrical assessment. Clearing a drain does not remove water already trapped beneath carpets or inside affected trim.
Tell us which areas are wet and whether warning lights or electrical symptoms appeared. Previous leak repairs are useful background, but a report or invoice is optional when booking.
After the repair
Follow the collection instructions for the work actually completed. Glass bonding may have a curing restriction; a drain service or mechanical adjustment has different aftercare. The applicable restrictions are explained at collection rather than applying one waiting period to every job.
If a leak, rattle, or uneven movement returns, contact the workshop with the invoice and symptom. Stop operating a roof that jams. Describe when the problem happens so the follow-up check can address the same conditions.

Match the roof, not just the badge
Which BMW sunroof is fitted?
Start with the model, year, and problem. We identify the fitted roof and check suitable parts. A VIN or roof photo may help with component matching later; neither is required to start an inquiry.
Single-panel tilt and slide
Examples include roof-equipped 3 Series F30 and 5 Series F10 variants. Panel travel, drain routing and motor access must be matched to the actual roof fitted, not assumed from the model name.
Opening panoramic roofs
Roof-equipped X3 F25/G01 and X5 F15/G05 variants can have multiple panels, a separate shade and more extensive cassette access. Front moving and rear fixed panels are different parts.
Fixed panoramic glass
A fixed roof has no opening mechanism to repair. Focus on glass condition, bonding or seals and any separate shade system. Some newer BMW roof options differ substantially from earlier opening roofs.

Does a leaking sunroof always need a new seal?
No. Blocked or detached drains, channel damage, panel alignment and another body leak can produce similar symptoms. A controlled water test helps identify the source before a seal or glass panel is ordered.
Can you replace just the motor or glass?
Yes, when assessment shows the surrounding mechanism and mounting points are suitable. A damaged rail can make a motor-only repair ineffective. Glass-only work depends on correct panel availability and the condition of the cassette.
Can I drive with a stuck or cracked sunroof?
Do not drive with loose glass or an unsecured panel. Stop using a grinding, jammed or uneven roof and arrange an assessment. A closed roof still needs inspection if the glass is damaged; contact us before traveling so transport can be discussed.
How long does the repair take?
Accessible drain work may be completed the same day after diagnosis, subject to access and workshop availability. Selected motor or glass work may take 1–2 working days after parts arrive. These are estimates, not guaranteed collection times. Parts ordering, cassette access, interior drying, and required curing can extend the visit.
Do all panoramic BMW roofs use the same parts?
No. Opening and fixed roofs differ, and panel position, body style, generation and roof options affect fitment. We may need the VIN and a roof photo before confirming the motor, glass, seal or cassette.
What warranty is included?
Coverage depends on the approved repair and the supplied parts. The applicable duration, parts and labor coverage, and exclusions belong in your written quote; no universal period is advertised here. A used assembly may have different terms from new supply. If the same leak, noise, or movement fault returns, contact us with the invoice and symptoms for assessment.
What do I need to send to book?
Send your BMW model, year and the symptom: leaking, not moving, noisy, shade fault or damaged glass. Add your location if transport is needed. You do not need a fault code; the VIN can be requested later for exact parts identification.
Is diagnosis included in the sunroof repair price?
