Steering feels heavy
We check hydraulic pressure, fluid loss, voltage, wiring and electric steering assistance.
If your BMW steering feels heavy, loose, noisy or pulls away from a straight line, book a proper steering diagnosis before replacing parts. We inspect hydraulic and electric steering systems, racks, pumps, columns, sensors, joints and alignment at our Al Quoz 4 workshop.
Tell us the BMW model, year, warning message and when the symptom happens. We will explain the safest next step and what can be estimated before inspection.

Protect control and tyre life
A pull can come from alignment, tyre condition, suspension wear or the steering system. Heavy steering can come from low voltage, hydraulic pressure loss or an electric-assist fault. Testing the complete system first helps prevent the wrong part being fitted.
Guide prices
These prices provide an early planning guide. Your final quote depends on the BMW model, steering system, confirmed fault, selected parts and whether alignment, programming or calibration is required.
| Steering service | Guide price | What affects the total |
|---|---|---|
| Steering inspection and diagnostic scan | AED 350 | Waived when the diagnosed repair is booked with us |
| Power steering fluid flush | From AED 350 | Fluid specification, contamination and leak condition |
| Wheel alignment and steering calibration | From AED 250 | Adjustment range, suspension condition and sensor reset |
| Power steering pump replacement | AED 800 to 1,600 | Pump type, hoses, fluid and selected replacement part |
| Steering rack repair | See rack repair price guide | Reseal, overhaul and replacement have different costs. Confirm the fitted total and VAT for the selected option. |
A written estimate should identify the confirmed repair, labour, selected parts, fluid, alignment and any programming. If testing finds suspension, tyre or electrical work outside the steering repair, we contact you before adding it.
Match the symptom
One steering symptom can have several causes. We match Autel data with the physical checks your BMW requires.
We check hydraulic pressure, fluid loss, voltage, wiring and electric steering assistance.
Tyres, alignment, tie rods, control arms and bushes are checked before the rack is blamed.
Movement checks identify play in tie rods, ball joints, rack mounts, column joints or suspension parts.
Fluid level, leaks, aeration and hydraulic pump pressure are checked before replacement.
Rack wear, joints, mounting points and wheel geometry are checked for the source of loose steering.
Autel data, voltage, torque input, motor operation and calibration are checked together.
One system, several repair routes
The VIN helps identify the fitted hydraulic, electric or active-steering specification. We then match the repair route to the evidence found during testing.
We check leaks, mechanical play, mounting points, voltage, wiring, torque input and assist operation before recommending steering rack service or electric rack repair.
Hydraulic pressure, fluid condition, hoses, reservoir, tie rods, ball joints, couplings and rack mounts are checked together. Air or contamination is removed correctly after repair.
Column joints, steering-angle input, torque sensors and related wiring receive mechanical and electronic checks. Alignment and calibration follow when required by the completed work.
Diagnosis before parts
A fault code can identify the control unit that noticed a problem, but it may not identify the failed part. We combine electronic data with physical steering, suspension and tyre checks.
This process separates a steering-system problem from a tyre, wheel, suspension or charging fault that creates a similar symptom.

Choose the sensible route
A complete steering rack should not be replaced because of one warning code or unrelated pull. The right choice depends on internal wear, leakage, electronic damage, parts availability and the condition of the rest of the system.
Targeted repair
Repair can be suitable when the fault is isolated to a seal, hose, mount, joint, sensor, connector or another serviceable component and the main rack remains mechanically sound.
Assembly solution
Replacement may be more dependable when there is serious internal wear, housing damage, repeated electronic failure or contamination that prevents a reliable local repair.
Check connected systems
01
Wheel alignment can correct geometry, but it cannot remove rack play, repair a joint or restore steering assistance. Worn components need attention first.
02
Electric steering relies on stable power and communication. A weak battery, charging fault or wiring problem can reduce assistance or trigger a steering warning.
03
Control-arm bushes, ball joints, wheel bearings and tyre faults can create wandering, vibration or poor return that feels like a steering rack problem.

The fitted system matters
Older BMW models may use hydraulic assistance with a pump, reservoir, fluid lines and steering rack. Many newer models use electric power steering with a motor, sensors and control electronics. Some specifications add variable or active-steering functions.
The repair plan must match the fitted equipment. Adding fluid cannot fix an electric system, while replacing an electric rack will not solve tyre pull or worn suspension. The VIN, warning data and a physical inspection identify the correct route.
Finish the complete job
Fitting the part is not the final step. The steering must move correctly through its range, warning faults must stay resolved and the vehicle must track normally. Where the repair changes geometry or electronic inputs, alignment and calibration need to be included.
We also check for leaks, secure fasteners, abnormal play, tyre condition and steering-wheel position. A road test confirms assistance, return and straight-line behaviour when the BMW is safe to drive.

BMW steering questions
Send the BMW model, year, warning and main symptom for a useful first conversation. The VIN can help identify the fitted steering system, but testing is still needed for a confirmed repair quote.
Diagnostic assessment is AED 350 and is waived when the diagnosed repair is booked with us. Alignment and calibration starts from AED 250, pump replacement is listed at AED 800 to 1,600, and rack repair at AED 950 to 1,850. The final price depends on the model, system, fault, parts and finishing work.
Stop safely and call if the steering suddenly becomes very heavy, locks, develops major free play or is accompanied by a red warning. A stable amber warning still needs prompt diagnosis because assistance may reduce and another electrical or mechanical fault may be involved.
Possible causes include low hydraulic fluid, a leak, weak pump pressure, belt trouble, low system voltage, wiring faults or an electric steering motor or sensor problem. The fitted system and warning data determine which checks are relevant.
Some hydraulic leaks, seals, mounts and selected electronic faults can be repaired when the rack remains serviceable. Replacement may be safer when there is serious internal wear, housing damage or repeated electronic failure. Inspection determines which route is reasonable.
Alignment can correct wheel geometry when the tyres, joints and suspension are serviceable. It cannot repair rack play, worn tie rods, damaged suspension or a steering-assist fault. Those problems should be resolved before final alignment.
Some electric rack, steering angle and control-unit repairs require programming, initialisation or calibration. Others do not. The BMW model, fitted part and repair procedure determine the finishing work included in the estimate.
Diagnosis and minor work may be completed the same day when parts are available. Rack, pump, column or electronic work can take longer because access, parts, alignment and programming vary. We give a realistic timeframe after inspection.
