BMW 4 Series repairs from warning lights to roof faults
Get engine repairs, cooling-system work, brake and steering repairs, electrical diagnosis and routine servicing for your BMW 4 Series at BMW Garage. We also investigate the body-specific problems that can make a Coupe, Gran Coupe or Convertible difficult to live with, including window operation, water entry and a roof that stops midway through its movement.
Your appointment begins with the problem you want fixed. A 420i with coolant loss needs a different inspection from a 440i with uneven acceleration or a Convertible with a roof warning. We record the symptoms, identify the vehicle and explain the next useful test. Autel diagnostics support the inspection where electronic information helps, while mechanical checks establish whether a part actually needs replacement.
You receive a quotation for the repair, with the parts and labor identified before work begins. Tell us if you also want scheduled maintenance completed during the visit. We can separate the urgent repair from servicing that is due and items you would prefer to plan for another appointment. Call with the model year and concern, or send the warning message on WhatsApp.

Repairs that match your Coupe, Gran Coupe or Convertible

Coupe windows and door seals
A frameless window must lower and rise correctly when the door is opened and closed. If the glass catches the seal, drops inconsistently or leaves wind noise, we inspect operation, guides, alignment and electrical commands before selecting a regulator or motor. Replacing the glass mechanism will not correct a damaged seal or a door that has been poorly aligned after bodywork.
Gran Coupe tailgate and rear cabin
A powered tailgate that reverses, stops or fails to latch needs its own checks. We inspect the latch, supports, wiring and relevant inputs rather than treating every fault as a failed motor. If there is dampness in the luggage area, locating the entry point comes before replacing an electronic module that may have been exposed to water.
Convertible roof and water entry
Earlier and later 4 Series Convertibles use different roof constructions. The earlier folding hardtop and later fabric-covered panel-bow roof do not share one universal repair. We identify the roof, examine seals and mechanisms, and investigate its operating sequence. Do not repeatedly force a roof that has stopped or operate it with an obstruction. Tell us whether it is fully closed when arranging the visit.
Body style also affects access time and the parts we order. A registration year alone may not identify a vehicle built near a generation change. Photos help us understand the complaint, but a roof diagnosis still requires the car. Once inspected, we explain whether the repair concerns adjustment, a seal, an electrical component or damaged mechanical parts. Roof-panel replacement is considered only when the condition supports it.
Engine performance, oil leaks and cooling repairs
Rough idle or uneven acceleration
An engine that shakes at idle or hesitates under load can have an ignition, fueling, air-leak or mechanical problem. We compare the complaint with fault information and relevant live readings. The condition of spark plugs and ignition components matters, but a misfire code alone does not prove that every coil needs replacement. We identify whether the fault stays with one cylinder, appears under a particular load or affects the engine more broadly.
For turbocharged variants, a loss of power also calls for checks of the air path and boost control. A split hose or poor connection can feel dramatic from the driver’s seat. A turbocharger quotation follows evidence of a turbo-related fault, with its oil supply, return connections and associated damage considered. Replacing a turbo while leaving another cause unresolved can lead to a repeat visit.
Coolant loss or a burning-oil smell
We inspect the source of a leak before quoting a gasket, hose, pump or complete housing. Oil can travel across an engine and undertray, making the lowest wet point misleading. Similarly, a coolant warning does not identify the failed component. Testing is chosen for the engine and the conditions under which the loss occurs.
A leaking gasket and a distorted or cracked cover need different repairs. We explain that distinction and include the necessary seals and fluids in the quotation. If the engine has overheated, an external leak repair may need to be followed by checks for additional damage. Stop safely and switch off for an overheating or oil-pressure warning; contact us to arrange suitable transport.
How we separate braking, steering and traction faults
Several warning lights can appear together because these functions share information. We follow the actual fault and driving complaint instead of treating each illuminated symbol as a separate failed assembly.
| What you notice | What we check | What the repair must resolve |
|---|---|---|
| ABS or DSC warning | Wheel-speed readings, related wiring, power supply and stored faults. | The faulty signal or component, followed by appropriate verification. A warning alone does not establish a failed ABS module. |
| Steering wheel off-center | Tires, alignment, suspension condition and steering-angle information where relevant. | The mechanical cause or required calibration. A sensor reset cannot straighten damaged or worn suspension parts. |
| Vibration while braking | Disc condition, pad contact, hub condition and suspension movement. | The source of the vibration, with the axle and parts quantity stated in the quote. |
| Heavy steering or a sudden change | Steering assistance, supply voltage, fault information and mechanical condition. | Safe steering operation. We discuss transport if control is impaired instead of asking you to drive to reproduce it. |
A road test is used only when the vehicle is safe and it adds useful information. Describe whether the symptom appears at parking speed, while braking or during a steady-speed journey. That detail often helps distinguish a wheel or tire problem from a steering or drivetrain complaint.
We explain any calibration that is genuinely required after the repair. Calibration is not a general cure for every dashboard warning, and clearing a fault memory does not by itself establish a successful repair. The final check relates to the original symptom, including returning wheel-speed signals, normal steering response or braking without the reported vibration.
Brake repairs and suspension work for daily driving
We inspect the braking hardware fitted to your 4 Series before pricing pads, discs or caliper work. An M Sport appearance package does not tell us the exact brake size. Front and rear parts can differ, and one axle’s price should not be presented as a full-car replacement. The quotation identifies which axle needs work and whether wear sensors or other components are required.
Disc replacement is based on measured condition and suitability, not simply the fact that new pads are being fitted. We look for wear, damage and uneven contact that may compromise the new parts. A dragging caliper needs its cause addressed; fitting pads alone will not resolve the extra heat or rapid wear. Tell us about pulling, grinding or a change in pedal feel when you book.
Restore the ride without replacing everything
A sharp knock, unsettled ride or tire wear can involve dampers, mounts, control arms, bushes or wheels. We inspect the components and consider alignment after the appropriate mechanical repairs. Adaptive and conventional dampers are priced separately because their equipment and cost differ. We discuss sensible paired replacement where required rather than giving every 4 Series the same suspension package.

Transmission, differential and xDrive repair
For hesitation when selecting a gear, a shudder or an unexpected shift, we establish which transmission is fitted and when the behavior happens. Fluid leaks, electrical faults, engine performance and transmission wear can overlap in the way they feel. A fluid service is useful maintenance when appropriate, but it is not presented as a guaranteed repair for worn internal components.
An agreed transmission service identifies the correct fluid, filter or pan arrangement, associated seals and level-setting procedure. A repair quotation may instead concern a leak, control component or internal work. We explain what has been confirmed and what additional inspection would be needed before an overhaul can be priced. You can approve the next inspection stage without committing in advance to a complete gearbox replacement.
On an xDrive-equipped 4 Series, we also consider the tires and additional driveline components when investigating shuddering or vibration. Tire sizes, their condition and the fitted wheel arrangement need to be compatible with the car. Rear-wheel-drive models do not need transfer-box servicing. Differential noise is investigated separately from wheel-bearing, tire or driveshaft noise so that the quotation addresses the actual source.
If the car will not engage a gear normally, has a severe fluid leak or produces a violent driveline vibration, contact us before driving. Explain whether it can roll, steer and select neutral so transport can be arranged appropriately. Never continue a journey just to make an intermittent fault more obvious.
Air conditioning and electrical repairs
Cooling performance that stays consistent
Warm air at idle, weak airflow and different temperatures from the vents point to different checks. We inspect the reported behavior, operating pressures where relevant, fan operation and controls. Refrigerant is not simply added each time cooling declines. When a leak is confirmed, the quotation identifies its repair and the necessary servicing of the refrigerant circuit.
A compressor replacement requires an assessment of the rest of the circuit, particularly if internal damage may have introduced contamination. A weak blower, restricted filter or temperature-control fault can also reduce comfort while the refrigeration components remain serviceable. We explain which work is needed and test the original cooling complaint afterward.
Battery, lighting and iDrive concerns
A low battery can accompany multiple messages, but it should still be tested. We check battery condition and charging behavior, then investigate an abnormal drain when symptoms justify it. A replacement must match the required specification and receive registration or coding as applicable. Screen, audio, camera and controller faults are assessed as their own complaints, with compatibility checked before an electronic part is ordered.

Choose maintenance from the service history
A useful 4 Series service starts with what the car has already received. Bring the latest invoices or a clear record of dates, mileage and parts. We compare the vehicle’s service information with that history and your current concerns. An oil change should identify the engine-appropriate approval, quantity, filter and required sealing parts. A generic viscosity label is not enough to establish the right oil.
A more extensive visit can include the filters and ignition servicing that are due, fluid checks, brakes, tires, suspension and a review of visible leaks. The exact list is agreed before work. We do not assume an air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs all need replacement merely because a package has been called “major.” Conversely, a service reminder reset does not substitute for work that has not been completed.
If you recently bought the car, maintenance records may be incomplete. We can establish a practical starting point by inspecting the vehicle and identifying overdue, uncertain and condition-dependent items. The aim is to give you a usable plan for ownership. Immediate safety or reliability concerns come first, while cosmetic details and later maintenance can be scheduled separately.
Owners who mainly make short trips should tell us how the car is used. So should those who leave it parked for long periods or use it regularly for longer highway journeys. This helps us discuss checks and follow-up without inventing one service interval for every engine and driving pattern. For an oil-service booking, see BMW 4 Series oil change and send the engine details.
Parts choices and a clear written quotation
Compare equivalent repair options
Where alternatives are suitable and available, we can explain the difference between genuine BMW parts and a specified quality replacement. The quotation names the supplied option. Terms such as “OEM quality” alone do not tell you the manufacturer or establish that two quotations include the same component. A lower price can also exclude seals, hardware, fluids or labor that another quotation already includes.
For a reused electronic component, compatibility involves more than a matching connector. The part number, vehicle equipment and any required programming or configuration need checking first. We discuss whether a reused part is appropriate and available for the particular repair. It is never assumed to be a direct fit simply because it came from another 4 Series.
Understand the complete repair cost
We itemize the work being approved and explain any additional inspection that could change the estimate. For internal engine work, that may mean an initial inspection followed by a decision once damage can be measured. For body or roof faults, it can mean checking concealed mounts or water-damaged connections before ordering the visible part.
Ask us to confirm the applicable warranty terms with the selected parts and repair. Coverage, exclusions and any follow-up requirements belong in the quotation or invoice. We do not promise that every repair has the same warranty period or completion time. You receive a realistic booking plan after the parts and work have been identified.
Arrange your 4 Series workshop visit
Call BMW Garage on +971 56 464 6081 or send your details through WhatsApp. Include the model, year, approximate mileage and the problem you want repaired. A photograph of the exact warning or a short recording made safely while stationary can help. Mention whether the car is a Coupe, Gran Coupe or Convertible and whether it has xDrive. The VIN helps us confirm the build and parts.
Our workshop is in Al Quoz 4, Dubai. Free pickup and drop-off within Dubai can make the appointment easier to arrange; confirm the collection details and vehicle condition when booking. If the car cannot be driven safely, describe the problem so appropriate transport can be discussed. Do not assume an ordinary collection is suitable for a car with locked wheels, a severe leak or an unsecured roof.
At handover we review the approved work and the checks performed for your original complaint. If another item was identified but not repaired, it is explained separately. You can use the invoice and recommendations to plan the next visit instead of trying to remember a verbal list. New customers can ask for the current 15% first-service discount when confirming the booking.
BMW 4 Series repair questions
Answers to help you arrange the right workshop visit in Al Quoz 4, Dubai.
Do you repair both older and newer BMW 4 Series models?
Yes. We arrange repairs and maintenance after identifying the engine, body style, transmission and equipment. The badge alone is not enough to order parts. Send the VIN and year when enquiring, particularly for a vehicle built near a generation change or an imported specification. We confirm the work and parts availability for your car before making a commitment.
Is a BMW M440i service the same as an M4 service?
No. An M440i belongs to the 4 Series range but does not use the same complete engine, braking and drivetrain specification as an M4. We price it from its own equipment. If you own an M4, our BMW M4 repair page explains the relevant repair choices. An M Sport badge also does not establish that M4 parts fit.
Can you repair a Convertible roof that has stopped halfway?
We can inspect the roof mechanism and its controls, then quote the confirmed repair. Tell us its current position before arranging collection. Do not force the panels or repeatedly operate a system that is obstructed or damaged. The first priority is safe handling and protection from water, followed by identifying the mechanical or electrical cause.
Why can an ABS warning also switch on the DSC warning?
These systems can use shared information, including wheel-speed signals. A fault in one signal may affect several functions. We check the relevant readings, wiring and fault information before recommending a sensor or control unit. If braking or steering has changed, contact us for advice about transport instead of assuming the warning is only electronic.
Can you give a fixed price from a warning-light photograph?
A photo helps identify the message but cannot establish the failed part. We can explain the initial inspection and give price direction for likely categories of work. The fitted quotation follows the appropriate checks. This avoids presenting a sensor starting price as the complete cost of an unconfirmed engine or drivetrain repair.
Will servicing cure a rough idle or transmission shudder?
Only if the condition is caused by an item the service actually corrects. Maintenance and fault diagnosis have different purposes. We can perform both in one visit, but we first establish what needs investigating and explain the costs. A fluid change, new plugs or a reminder reset is not automatically a repair for every symptom.
Can I book brakes and maintenance together?
Yes. Tell us what is due and describe any braking concerns when booking. We can inspect the pads and discs, confirm the axle and parts required, and combine approved work with scheduled maintenance. The estimate keeps the tasks clear so you can see what is included and which items are optional or can be planned later.
