A charging or cooling fault can prevent electric driving without requiring a complete battery.
What has changed?
Range changes with temperature, AC use, speed and recent driving. A sustained reduction under similar conditions needs a battery-capacity and charging assessment, not an automatic replacement.
The charging point, cable, socket, onboard charger or battery controls may be involved. Tell us whether the fault happens at one charger or several, if you already know.
A weak 12 V supply can disrupt vehicle controls. High-voltage faults can also prevent startup. We check both systems and interpret the warning with the stored faults.
Identify the battery first
The traction battery stores energy for the electric motor. Testing considers cell-group behavior, temperature control, insulation faults and the battery management system. Pack removal or internal repairs need high-voltage procedures and suitable equipment.
A repair may target an eligible module or related component. A complete replacement is considered when the pack condition or repair instructions make that the appropriate choice.
The low-voltage battery supports control units and vehicle electronics. If it fails, the car may not become ready even when the traction battery has charge.

Also different: a 48 V mild-hybrid battery is not a plug-in hybrid traction pack. Fully electric BMWs, older ActiveHybrid systems and plug-in hybrids need separate identification, parts and quotations.
Budget before you approve
Estimated costs vary by battery generation, condition, and the work required. The pack figures below are provisional budgeting allowances with no specified supply condition. They are not offers for a new, used, or remanufactured battery. Your quote identifies the actual unit and its condition before you approve it. New genuine packs are quoted separately and can cost substantially more.

Module-level repairs are priced after the fault and repair eligibility are established. The written quote lists the proposed battery condition, labor, required seals or coolant, commissioning, testing, VAT, and any old-pack return requirement. Any refundable core deposit must be shown separately, including the return conditions. Standard fitting covers removal, installation, and routine commissioning checks; additional programming and materials must be itemized. Recovery, charging hardware, cooling-system repairs and accident or water damage are outside the listed allowances. Do not add diagnosis twice if it is already included in your agreed package.

Find the cause
BMW-compatible diagnostics, including ISTA test plans where applicable, help separate a battery fault from a charging, cooling or low-voltage problem. A fault code is the start of the inspection, not permission to replace the most expensive component.
You receive a recommendation tied to the findings. If more testing is needed, the next cost and its purpose should be clear before work continues.

A cheaper unit can lose its advantage if removal, seals, fluid, programming or repeat testing are excluded. Consider remaining battery capacity, the condition of the rest of the car and how long you plan to keep it. Balancing cannot reverse physical cell deterioration.
Coverage depends on the actual repair and supplied part. Confirm duration or mileage, covered labor, capacity-related terms and exclusions. Check any remaining BMW coverage or recall eligibility before paying for independent work. Manufacturer coverage varies by vehicle and market.
From approval to handover
High-voltage work belongs in a suitably equipped workshop. Removing a terminal, resetting a warning or disconnecting the 12 V battery is not a substitute for the required safety procedure.
Review the repair, final checks and any remaining issues. Keep the invoice, part details and applicable warranty. Range varies with use, so no fixed kilometer gain is promised.
Record the complaint, inspect the vehicle and agree on the diagnostic scope. If the issue is outside the pack, quote that repair separately.
Identify the battery and compatible replacement or repair parts. Confirm supply condition, the complete price, availability and expected downtime before ordering or removal.
Use the model-specific isolation and handling procedure. Replace or repair the approved components, renew required seals or materials and restore disturbed cooling connections.
Complete required initialization or programming, then check charging, fault status, cooling and vehicle operation. Road testing follows only when the vehicle is safe and the procedure calls for it.
The badge is only the starting point
The two generations do not share one universal battery. Production changes affect capacity, pack construction and replacement parts. A higher-capacity unit is not automatically a supported upgrade.
Battery revisions and installation layouts affect access, parts and testing. Charging or temperature-control faults must be separated from cell deterioration before a pack is ordered.

Start with the model and year. We can identify the fitted system and request the VIN later. Newer 50e, XM and other generations, older ActiveHybrid models, 48 V systems and fully electric BMWs need their own parts and service assessment.

Answers before you book
Calculated budgets for a selected pack, standard fitting, and initial diagnosis are AED 11,602.50–15,120 for a 330e and AED 20,527.50–27,720 for an X5 45e, including 5% VAT. These provisional allowances do not specify battery supply condition and are not new-pack offers. Required materials, extended testing, and other repairs are additional. The actual unit and condition are identified in your quote.
Sometimes. A localized fault may allow a suitable module or component repair if the pack design, remaining condition and repair procedure support it. Widespread deterioration or damage may favor replacement. A reset or balancing procedure cannot make physically degraded cells new again.
Only if the warning is caused by the low-voltage supply. Replacing a failed 12 V battery can restore correct control-system operation, but it does not repair traction-battery damage or an onboard charging fault. Diagnosis separates these possibilities.
Do not assume that gasoline mode makes the vehicle safe. Follow the exact dashboard instruction and owner’s manual. Stop for a stop-driving warning, smoke, unusual heat, impact or water damage. Tell us the warning so the next step can be assessed; arrange recovery when safe operation is uncertain.
The fitted battery and BMW repair procedure determine the required initialization, commissioning or programming. There is no single universal BMS reset for every hybrid. Your quote should identify the necessary work, and final checks should confirm charging and normal operation.
Allow time for diagnosis before parts are ordered. Straightforward replacement may take 2–5 working days after the correct pack is available, depending on access and verification. Shipping, extended testing, additional faults and specialist repairs can extend the visit. Confirm the expected collection date after assessment.
The warranty depends on the supplied battery and repair. Obtain the duration or mileage, covered components and labor, exclusions and claim arrangements in writing. Remaining manufacturer coverage or a recall may affect the best next step, so check eligibility before approving paid replacement.

A used pack retains its previous service history and wear. A remanufactured pack has undergone a supplier-defined rebuilding and testing process, which must be explained for the actual unit. A new genuine pack is a new BMW-supplied assembly matched to the vehicle. Compare documented condition, compatibility, included work, and written coverage. Availability and prices depend on the exact application.
